Dual-radio 802.11n access point with three-stream MIMO reaching 900 Mbps, beamforming and band steering for enterprise coverage
The HPE E-MSM430 is a dual-radio wireless access point operating on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands with 802.11n 300 Mbit/s capability. It supports three spatial stream MIMO and beamforming to reach near Gigabit Ethernet performance up to 900 Mbps. The unit functions standalone or with a wireless controller for enterprise deployments.
The 802.11n standard limits real-world throughput well below the 300 Mbit/s PHY rate and the 900 Mbps aggregate figure cited for three-stream operation. Legacy 802.11a/b/g clients reduce airtime efficiency when associated. Environments requiring multi-gigabit wireless speeds need a newer Wi-Fi generation.
This model is the first in the product line to offer three spatial stream MIMO, which enables the 900 Mbps aggregate rate and beamforming coverage gains. Buyers whose client devices only support one or two streams will not achieve the rated maximum. The related E-MSM466 adds support for indoor and outdoor MIMO antennas.

The E-MSM430 uses three spatial stream MIMO to reach 900 Mbps aggregate throughput, while the E-MSM466 adds support for indoor and outdoor MIMO antennas.
The 300 Mbit/s rate applies to a single 802.11n radio; with dual radios and three spatial streams the combined throughput can approach 900 Mbps.
It uses IEEE 802.11n on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, delivering up to 300 Mbit/s per radio and 900 Mbps aggregate with three spatial streams.
