This HPE switch fabric module is designed for the HP A7500 modular switch. It provides the core data-plane switching capacity inside the chassis. Network engineers deploying or expanding an A7500 system use this module to enable high-throughput data networking across the backplane.

Upgrading or replacing fabric capacity

The module replaces a failed fabric unit or adds incremental switching fabric to an existing A7500 chassis. The upgrade is worth it when the current fabric becomes a bottleneck for aggregate traffic or when redundancy requires an additional module to maintain non-blocking performance across all line cards.

Traffic capacity and headroom

The module handles the full data-networking load supported by the A7500 architecture, distributing traffic across installed line cards. It runs out of headroom when aggregate throughput exceeds the fabric bandwidth budget of the chassis or when all fabric slots are populated and further expansion requires a larger switch platform.
