Layer 3 Ethernet switch with 24 Gigabit ports and four 10G SFP+ uplinks
The HPE FlexNetwork 5140 EI is a Layer 3 Ethernet switch with 24 Gigabit RJ-45 ports and four 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplink slots. It supports both twisted-pair and optical-fiber media for flexible campus or branch deployments.
This switch suits administrators who require 10 Gigabit uplinks on a 24-port access layer and support for IEEE 802.3, 802.1Q, 802.1w and 802.3ad standards. Buyers who need Power over Ethernet for phones or cameras should look at PoE-capable models instead.
The defining specification is the combination of 24 fixed 10/100/1000Base-T ports and four modular SFP+ expansion slots for 10GBase-X uplinks. This port arrangement determines whether the switch fits the intended aggregation or access role.

Secure the supplied brackets to the chassis, slide the unit into the rack and tighten all four bracket screws; the step often missed is verifying the 120 V AC or 230 V AC power cord is seated before powering on.
The internal power supply and cooling fans are the field-replaceable units; SFP+ transceivers in the four uplink slots are swapped when link speed or fiber type changes.
Each of the 24 RJ-45 ports caps at 1000 Mbps and each of the four SFP+ uplinks caps at 10 Gbps, so aggregated traffic exceeding those line rates queues at the port buffers.
