A 48-port Ethernet switch module supporting Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching with Virtual Chassis technology to interconnect up to 10 switches as a single device
The Juniper EX4300-48T delivers 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a stackable platform. It suits data centre, campus and branch office deployments that need Layer 2 and Layer 3 capabilities. Virtual Chassis technology lets up to 10 switches operate as a single logical device. The pay-as-you-grow architecture matches expanding network requirements without a large initial outlay.
The switch runs carrier-class hardware designed for continuous operation in rack environments. Front-to-back airflow aligns with standard data centre hot-aisle and cold-aisle layouts. Acoustic output stays within limits expected for wiring-closet and equipment-room installation. Power consumption scales with port utilisation and connected PoE loads where applicable.
Virtual Chassis interconnects use 40 GbE uplinks to maintain full switching capacity across the stack. The control plane remains stable when all 48 ports carry traffic simultaneously. Layer 3 forwarding tables and routing protocols converge without interruption during extended peak periods. The architecture avoids the bottlenecks that appear in standalone uplinks when traffic is sustained.

Mount the 48-port switch in a standard rack, connect power, then link up to 10 units with Virtual Chassis cables and configure the single logical device; the step often missed is completing the Virtual Chassis configuration after physical cabling.
The switch uses internal cooling fans and redundant power supplies that may require replacement after extended operation; plan for fan and power-supply module swaps during scheduled maintenance windows.
The 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 40 Gbps uplinks can saturate total switching capacity, so aggregate throughput across all ports becomes the first bottleneck during sustained high-volume loads.
