What this printer does

The HPE LaserJet Pro M428FDN is a monochrome multifunction laser printer that prints, scans, copies and faxes at up to 40 ppm. It includes a 50-sheet automatic document feeder, automatic duplexing, a 2.7 inch colour touchscreen and a USB host port. The bundle adds a new generic HP CF258A toner cartridge rated for 3,000 pages.

Who it suits and who it does not

Offices that need fast black-and-white output with wireless and mobile printing from Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Mopria, HP ePrint and the HP Smart App will find it a compact all-in-one. Buyers who require colour printing, larger paper formats than 8.5 x 14 inches or a higher input capacity than 350 sheets should consider other models.

The specification that decides fit

Maximum monthly duty cycle is 80,000 pages, so the printer is built for heavy daily workloads rather than occasional home use. If your volume stays well below that level, a smaller device may be more economical.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the 40 ppm print speed is working after setup?

Print a multi-page document and time the output; the printer should deliver up to 40 pages per minute at 1200 x 1200 dpi.

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The bundle includes the M428FDN multifunction printer and a new generic HP CF258A toner cartridge rated for 3000 pages; paper is not included.

Which version should I choose — the standard unit or the toner value bundle?

The W1A29A#BGJ_TONERVB bundle adds a 3000-page generic toner cartridge to the base M428FDN, so you can start printing immediately without a separate toner purchase.
