Outdoor 802.11ac access point for harsh environments

The HPE Instant On IAP-275 is a purpose-built outdoor wireless access point rated for extreme temperatures, persistent moisture and airborne contaminants. Industrial-strength surge protection covers all electrical interfaces. It delivers gigabit Wi-Fi performance to 802.11ac mobile devices under any weather conditions.

Suits deployments needing rugged outdoor coverage

Organisations requiring a sealed enclosure that survives extreme high and low temperatures with continuous dual-radio operation will benefit. Buyers who need indoor-only hardware or a form factor designed for office ceilings should look at something else.

1.3 Gbps maximum data rate in the 5 GHz band

The 5 GHz radio reaches 1.3 Gbps while the 2.4 GHz radio reaches 600 Mbps, together exceeding Fast Ethernet speeds. This throughput figure determines whether the unit meets the capacity requirements for the intended outdoor client density.

Questions about this item

How much power does the IAP-275 access point draw when it runs continuously?

The unit is powered through its Ethernet port using PoE, so it draws only the power the switch allocates and does not need a separate mains adapter.

What existing network equipment must I already have for this outdoor AP to operate?

You need a PoE-capable switch or injector and a wired Ethernet run to the mounting location; the AP is then managed through the Instant On mobile app or web portal.

Will the IAP-275 work alongside my older 802.11n devices on the 2.4 GHz band?

Yes, the 2.4 GHz radio runs at up to 600 Mbps and the manufacturer states that 802.11n clients can operate three times faster at greater distances compared with previous outdoor APs.
