A low-profile PCIe 2.0 x8 SAS RAID controller with two internal SFF-8484 ports supporting RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5, 5+0 and optional RAID 6 via cache upgrade
The HPE Smart Array P410i is a low-profile, half-height plug-in card that provides eight internal SAS ports through two SFF-8484 connectors. It connects to the host via a PCI Express 2.0 x8 interface and uses DDR2-800 memory for operation. This controller suits administrators adding hardware RAID to compatible HPE ProLiant servers.
The card operates on a PCI Express 2.0 x8 link, which caps the maximum data transfer rate at 600. The two internal SAS ports share this bandwidth, so aggregate throughput cannot exceed the host bus limit. Systems restricted to PCIe 1.x slots will reduce available bandwidth further.
Hardware RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5 and 5+0 are supported natively on the controller. RAID 6 and 6+0 require the separate Smart Array Advanced Pack license key and a compatible cache upgrade. Environments needing RAID 6 without purchasing the licence should select a different controller.

The controller can be upgraded with a minimum 256 MB cache module and a battery kit for BBWC, so you can add either later.
The 600 MB/s figure is the Serial ATA/600 interface ceiling; actual throughput depends on the drives and RAID level configured.
The PCIe 2.0 x8 host interface caps the controller's bandwidth to the slot's maximum, which may restrict performance with heavy multi-drive workloads.
