HPE ProCurve J9033A 20-Port 10/100/1000 Switch Module

Module purpose

The ProCurve J9033A is a 20-port switching module designed for the 4200vl series chassis. It adds 20 RJ-45 10/100/1000Base-T ports and four SFP expansion slots to an existing switch. Network administrators use it to increase copper port density without adding another standalone unit. It is not suited for environments that require fibre uplinks beyond the four SFP slots or for chassis families outside the 4200vl line.

Build and connectivity

The module slides into a vacant slot of a compatible 4200vl chassis and draws power from the backplane. Twenty RJ-45 ports provide auto-negotiating copper links at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps. Four SFP cages accept standard small form-factor pluggable transceivers for fibre or copper uplinks. No external power supply or separate mounting hardware is needed; the unit is secured by the chassis retention mechanism.

Thermals and power

Cooling is handled by the chassis fan tray, so the module adds no independent noise source. Power consumption is supplied through the backplane and varies with port utilisation and transceiver choice. Under typical mixed copper and SFP loads the module operates within the thermal envelope defined for the 4200vl series. It does not require dedicated airflow management beyond the standard chassis configuration.
