Mini PCI Wi-Fi adapter for HP notebooks

The HPE W500Product is a Mini PCI Type IIIa wireless LAN adapter designed for compatible HP notebook PCs. It adds IEEE 802.11 a/b/g connectivity to systems that lack built-in wireless or need a replacement module.

Fits Mini PCI Type IIIa slots with dual-band support

The card installs directly into a Mini PCI Type IIIa expansion slot inside the notebook chassis. It operates on both the 2.40 GHz ISM band and the 5 GHz UNII band, providing flexibility for different network environments without requiring external antennas.

Upgrades legacy notebooks from single-band

This adapter replaces an absent or single-band wireless card, enabling 54 Mbit/s maximum transmission speed across dual bands. The jump is worthwhile when a notebook has a free Mini PCI Type IIIa slot and needs reliable indoor coverage up to 300 ft or outdoor reach up to 1200 ft. It does not suit systems lacking this specific slot type or those requiring modern Wi-Fi standards beyond IEEE 802.11 a/b/g.

Questions about this item

How long will the 54 Mbit/s link hold up when the W500 runs continuously?

The adapter is rated for 54 Mbit/s under IEEE 802.11 a/b/g; sustained throughput will depend on signal quality and network load rather than a thermal limit.

What heat or fan noise should I expect from the W500 during all-day operation?

The card draws low power for long battery life and has no fan; it adds negligible heat inside a notebook chassis.

Which notebook slot must my laptop already have for this W500 to install?

Your system needs a free Mini PCI Type IIIa socket; the adapter will not fit M.2 or full-size Mini PCIe slots.
