Hubbell CS8265C 50 A 250 V Locking Plug

This Hubbell CS8265C is a non-NEMA locking plug rated at 50 A and 250 V AC. It is built for industrial and heavy-duty power connections where a secure, twist-lock coupling is required. The device suits electricians and facility managers who need reliable single-phase supply in harsh environments. It is not intended for standard domestic outlets or for applications that demand a NEMA-configuration plug.

Twist-Lock Interface and 50 A Rating

The twist-lock mechanism prevents accidental disconnection under vibration or cable strain, but it only mates with matching CS-series receptacles. The 50 A rating sets the maximum continuous current; exceeding it will overheat the contacts and the nylon housing. The 250 V AC rating limits use to compatible single-phase supplies; it cannot be used on three-phase or higher-voltage systems. No weather-sealing rating is provided, so outdoor use requires an additional enclosure.

Installation and Common Issues

Wiring uses box terminals with hex-socket threaded slugs that accept conductors up to the gauge implied by the 50 A rating; a hex driver is needed to achieve full clamping pressure without damaging strands. The two-piece external cord clamp must be tightened in sequence to secure both the conductors and the outer jacket for proper strain relief. Misaligned insertion can damage the stainless-steel shroud and prevent locking; always verify keyway orientation before applying force.

Questions about this item

Which version of the CS8265C locking plug should I choose for a 50 A 250 V AC supply?

The CS8265C is a single 50 A 250 V AC locking plug with a non-NEMA configuration, so there are no alternate versions to select for that rating.

What does the 50 A rating mean when the plug is installed in a real circuit?

It indicates the plug is designed to carry up to 50 amps continuously at 250 V AC in heavy-duty applications, with a box terminal that applies high clamping pressure without damaging conductor strands.

What interface standard does the CS8265C use and what does it prevent?

It uses a non-NEMA twist-lock interface with a stainless steel shroud that protects the contacts and prevents mismating with dissimilar devices.
