Headset identity and purpose

The HyperX Cloud II is a wired over-ear gaming headset finished in red with large 53 millimetre drivers. It delivers hardware-driven 7.1 virtual surround sound on PC and Mac through a USB audio control box, while stereo output works on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

Who it suits and who it doesn't

Gamers who want a single headset for PC surround sound and console stereo will find the multi-platform support convenient. Buyers who need wireless freedom or active noise cancellation should look elsewhere, as the headset uses a detachable cable and relies on passive isolation from its closed ear cups.

The decisive specification

The USB audio control box enables 7.1 virtual surround sound only on PC and Mac; on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and mobile the headset operates in stereo mode. Check which platform you play on most before deciding if this surround implementation meets your needs.

Questions about this item

Does the 7.1 virtual surround sound require a PC or Mac USB port to function?

The 7.1 virtual surround sound is hardware-driven and works only on PC and Mac via the USB audio control box; consoles and mobile devices receive stereo output.

Will the detachable microphone still pick up voice clearly if I keep using my older TeamSpeak or Discord client?

The microphone is TeamSpeak and Discord certified, so it works with current and older versions of those clients without extra setup.

How can I confirm the 53mm drivers are delivering the 15-25kHz frequency response after plugging in?

Play a frequency sweep test file; you should hear continuous output up to the 25kHz limit and the passive noise cancellation should block outside sound when the ear cups seal.
