An eight-core Xeon server processor running at 2.60 GHz with 20 MB L3 cache for the System x3550 M5
This IBM-branded Lenovo processor upgrade delivers eight cores at a base frequency of 2.60 GHz for the System x3550 M5 platform. It operates on the LGA 2011-v3 socket with a 90 W thermal design power and 1.3 V DC input voltage. The 22 nm process technology supports 64-bit computing and QuickPath Interconnect at 8 GT/s.
This upgrade fits only the IBM System x3550 M5 according to the manufacturer compatibility list. Builders working on different chassis, different socket types, or earlier Xeon generations must source the correct part for their platform. The fixed 90 W envelope also rules out chassis with lower cooling limits.
The processor installs exclusively into Socket LGA 2011-v3, so the host system must provide that exact socket and a 90 W cooling solution. Without this socket the part cannot be used, making socket type the single specification that determines whether the upgrade is viable.

Yes, the processor uses Socket LGA 2011-v3 and measures 2.1 inches wide by 1.8 inches deep, so it fits boards with that socket and sufficient clearance.
Align the notches on the CPU with the socket keys, lower it gently without force, then apply a pea-sized dot of thermal paste on the centre of the heat spreader before mounting the heatsink.
Replace the thermal paste every two to three years or whenever the heatsink is removed, because the 90 W thermal design power and 74.3 °C maximum case temperature make consistent paste quality important for long-term cooling.
