146 GB 15K SAS drive for servers

This 146 GB internal hard drive spins at 15000 RPM and connects through a 3.5 inch SAS 3Gbps interface. It is built for IBM X Series servers that need high-speed local storage in a 3.5 inch bay. The drive is supplied new and includes a 16 MB cache buffer.

Included IBM X Series caddy tray

The package contains an IBM X Series caddy tray that matches the drive form factor. This tray lets the drive slide directly into compatible server bays without extra mounting hardware. Part numbers 39R7350 26K5842 40K1044 confirm the correct tray for supported systems.

Verify SAS controller and bay spacing

Check that your server has a free 3.5 inch SAS backplane or controller that supports 3Gbps operation. Confirm the physical bay accepts the supplied caddy tray and that the system can address a 146 GB volume. Weight is 2.0 pound.

Questions about this item

How often will the 15K RPM SAS drive need replacement in a server?

Enterprise 15K RPM SAS drives are rated for continuous operation; plan replacement around the five-year design life or when SMART attributes indicate wear.

What limit appears first when the 146GB SAS drive runs sustained workloads?

The 3Gbps SAS interface caps sustained throughput, so the bus saturates before the 15000RPM platters reach their maximum transfer rate.

How much noise and heat does the 3.5" SAS drive produce all day?

Expect audible seek noise from the 15K RPM spindle; the included IBM X Series caddy directs airflow across the drive to manage heat in the chassis.
