  • 1 lb lightweight design eases installation
  • 5″ depth matches standard drive bays

IBM 8x IDE DVD-RW for servers

This IBM 26K5382 is an internal 8x DVD-RW drive that connects through an IDE interface. It is built for server chassis that still provide a legacy PATA port and a 5.25-inch bay. The unit ships new and weighs 5.1 lb with physical dimensions of 1 by 5.8 by 7.5 inches.

Ideal for legacy server maintenance

Technicians restoring or expanding older IBM systems that require an IDE optical drive will find this part a direct fit. Builders working with modern platforms that lack IDE headers or 5.25-inch bays should look elsewhere, as the drive cannot be installed without those legacy connections and mounting space.

Questions about this item

Will the 8× IDE DVD-RW drive throttle write speeds during long burns?

The drive writes at a maximum 8× rate over IDE; sustained sessions stay at that speed unless the host system reduces throughput.

How much noise and heat does the 5.1 kg unit produce in continuous operation?

At 5.1 kg the drive runs a standard IDE mechanism; typical acoustic output is comparable to other 8× internal writers and heat stays within normal chassis airflow limits.
