Internal DVD-ROM drive

The IBM 45N7451 is a refurbished Sata DVD-ROM drive with a black slot-load bezel. It fits Ultrabay Slim bays in compatible ThinkPad notebooks. Read speeds reach 24× for CDs and 8× for DVDs. The drive handles standard optical media for software installs or data recovery.

Who this suits

Technicians restoring or maintaining older ThinkPad models that accept Ultrabay Slim modules will find this drive a direct fit. Users who only need occasional disc access on supported hardware can install it without adapters. Builders working on modern laptops without an Ultrabay slot or on desktop chassis should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification

The Ultrabay Slim form factor combined with a Sata interface determines whether the drive installs in a given system. Verify that the target notebook lists Ultrabay Slim support before purchase.

Questions about this item

How fast can the 45N7451 read CDs and DVDs under sustained use?

The drive reads CDs at 24X and DVDs at 8X maximum speeds, which are the rated limits for continuous operation.

What noise or heat should I expect when the slot-load mechanism runs all day?

Slot-load drives operate with a motorised feed; expect a low mechanical hum and slight warmth from the SATA electronics during extended sessions.

Which ThinkPad Ultrabay slot and SATA port must my laptop already have for this 45N7451 to work?

It requires a ThinkPad Ultrabay Slim bay with an internal SATA connector; the drive slides directly into that slot.
