IBM Refurbished

IBM 46C7881 Xeon X5550 2.66 GHz switch module

SKU CH-Q44A-XBCAR MPN 46C7881

Refurbished Xeon X5550 quad-core processor running at 2.66 GHz with 8 MB L3 cache for Socket B (LGA 1366) systems

  • Quad-core Xeon performance for demanding workloads
  • 66 GHz clock speed with 8 MB L3 cache
  • 4 GT/s QPI for fast interconnect bandwidth
  • LGA 1366 socket fits compatible server boards

Processor module for blade servers

The IBM 46C7881 integrates an Intel Xeon X5550 quad-core processor running at 2.66 GHz with 1 MB L2 cache and 8 MB L3 cache. It fits Socket B (LGA1366) blade bays and is rated at 95 W TDP. This refurbished unit suits administrators refreshing compatible IBM blade chassis.

Limited by the 6.4 GT/s QPI link

The 6.4 GT/s QuickPath Interconnect caps inter-socket bandwidth, so memory-intensive workloads scale poorly beyond two sockets. The 45 nm process cannot reach the clock speeds or efficiency of later nodes, ruling out modern virtualization density targets. Buyers needing higher core counts or faster interconnects cannot use this module.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2.66 GHz X5550 or a different speed bin for my blade?

The X5550 runs at 2.66 GHz with four cores, 1 MB L2 and 8 MB L3 cache, and a 6.4 GT/s QPI link, so choose it when that exact clock and cache balance matches your workload.

What does the 6.4 GT/s QPI figure mean once the processor is installed?

It sets the peak inter-socket bandwidth at 6.4 GT/s, letting two X5550 CPUs exchange data quickly across the LGA 1366 platform.
