Memory Expansion Card 69Y1742

This IBM memory expansion card carries part number 69Y1742 and is built for the System x3850 X5 server platform. It adds extra memory slots so the chassis can support larger configurations than the base board allows. The card is new and intended for administrators scaling up existing x3850 X5 deployments.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous operation the card runs at the thermal limits defined by the server chassis airflow design. It does not throttle memory bandwidth during extended workloads because it has no active cooling of its own. Buyers who need more expansion slots than this single card provides should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Does the memory expansion card add any fan noise or extra heat to the System X3850 X5?

The card is a passive component with no fans, so it does not increase acoustic noise or generate additional heat beyond the memory modules installed on it.

What server chassis and firmware are required before installing the 69Y1742 card?

It must be installed in an IBM System X3850 X5 with the latest UEFI firmware to recognise the additional memory slots.
