IBM Intel Ethernet Dual Port Server Adapter 1340-T2 49Y4231 49Y4232

SKU CH-9H8W-M2S8Y

Adds two Gigabit Ethernet ports over a PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot using RJ-45 connectors

  • Dual Gigabit ports expand wired connectivity
  • PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot conserves server I/O lanes
  • Dedicated bandwidth per port avoids bus contention
  • RJ-45 connectors suit standard Category-5 cabling
  • New condition ready for System X deployment

Dual-port Gigabit server adapter

The IBM Intel 1340-T2 adds two 1000Base-T RJ-45 ports through a single PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot. It is built for System X servers that need extra wired Ethernet links without consuming multiple expansion slots.

Check slot and cabling first

Verify the server has a free PCIe 2.0 x4 or larger slot and that Category-5 or better copper cabling is in place for 1000Base-T operation. The card draws power from the slot itself, so no auxiliary connector is required.

Suits density-focused System X upgrades

This adapter suits administrators adding dual Gigabit links to compatible System X chassis where slot space is limited. Buyers needing 10 Gigabit speeds, fibre interfaces, or support for non-System X platforms should look at other models.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and do I need to buy cables separately?

The adapter ships with the dual-port PCIe card and low-profile bracket; Category-5 RJ-45 patch cables are not included and must be purchased separately.

Should I choose part 49Y4231 or 49Y4232 for my System X server?

Both part numbers refer to the same Intel 1340-T2 dual-port Gigabit Ethernet adapter; either will fit a PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot in supported System X models.

What does the 1000Base-T rating mean once the card is installed?

Each RJ-45 port delivers up to 1 Gbps full-duplex throughput over standard Cat-5 cabling, with dedicated PCIe 2.0 x4 bandwidth per port.
