Server and Array Builders

This drive suits administrators expanding capacity in SAS backplanes or replacing failed units in IBM System Storage arrays. Buyers without a SAS host bus adapter or a backplane that accepts 3.5 inch SAS drives cannot use this product.

SAS 12Gbps Interface

The 12Gbps SAS connection is the single specification that determines compatibility with your controller and backplane. Verify that your hardware supports this interface speed and physical connector before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much power and heat does the 7200RPM SAS drive produce when running continuously?

The 7200RPM spindle and SAS 12Gbps interface draw typical enterprise power levels; expect measurable heat output that requires standard 3.5in bay airflow.

What host connector and caddy does the ST6000NM0014 need to operate?

It requires a 12Gbps SAS backplane or HBA and fits the included SYSTEM STORAGE caddy tray for 3.5in bays.

Will the 12Gbps SAS interface work with my older 6Gbps SAS controller?

Yes, the SAS 12Gbps interface is backward compatible with 6Gbps and 3Gbps SAS controllers at the lower link speed.
