  • Broadcom BCM5709C controller offloads TCP/IP processing

Quad-port Gigabit adapter for IBM X3850

The IBM 49Y7949 adds four Gigabit Ethernet ports to compatible servers through a PCIe x4 slot using the Broadcom BCM5709C controller. It ships with a low-profile bracket for installation in space-constrained chassis. The card is supplied new and carries a 60-day warranty.

Low-profile bracket enables dense server deployment

The included bracket allows the adapter to fit 1U and other low-profile systems where a full-height card cannot be installed. This mechanical change makes the quad-port interface usable in rack-density configurations that would otherwise require a different form factor.

Questions about this item

Will the BCM5709C adapter need a firmware update before it works in the X3850?

The BCM5709C ships with current firmware; apply any later IBM System x updates through the standard management tools if your maintenance window requires it.

What limits sustained throughput on the quad-port BCM5709C?

Each of the four ports is a 1 Gb/s link, so aggregate throughput caps at the combined line rate of those ports.
