Adds a tool-less removable M.2 NVMe SSD tray to a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot with aluminum heatsink cooling
The ICY DOCK ExpressSlot Core MB305M4P-B is a PCIe 4.0 x4 adapter that lets you add one M.2 NVMe SSD to a desktop system. It accepts 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 drives from 30mm to 80mm in length. The card fits a single-width full-height or half-height expansion slot and is also compatible with x8 and x16 slots. Builders who need to install more than one drive or who require a different interface will need another solution.
An aluminium heatsink lid and an included thermal pad draw heat away from the SSD during operation. The PCIe 4.0 x4 interface supplies both power and data through the slot, so no extra cables are required. The tool-less tray design keeps airflow paths clear around the drive. No fan is present, so cooling relies on case airflow and the heatsink alone.
The tool-less removable tray uses a quick-release knob for fast SSD swaps without a screwdriver. A single-width bracket allows installation in tight spaces while the full-height or half-height option matches different chassis layouts. The card supports PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds up to 64Gbps and works in x8 or x16 slots for flexible placement.

Insert the SSD into the removable tray at the correct angle, secure it with the integrated latch, then slide the tray into the card until the quick-release knob clicks; the step often missed is applying the included thermal pad between the SSD and the aluminum heatsink lid before closing it.
The tool-less tray and quick-release knob are designed for repeated SSD swaps, so the only likely maintenance is replacing the thermal pad if it loses contact or degrades after many drive changes; the card itself has no moving parts or fans to service.
The PCIe 4.0 x4 interface caps throughput at 64Gbps, so sustained sequential reads and writes from a fast NVMe drive will hit that bandwidth ceiling before the aluminum heatsink becomes a thermal bottleneck.
