What this cutter handles

The Ideal 45-074 is a 7-inch cable cutter built for copper-based cables up to 1/2 inch thick. It suits electricians and installers who need clean shear cuts on coaxial lines through RG-11 and twisted-pair runs.

How the design changes the work

Curved vinyl-coated handles give extra leverage so each squeeze requires less effort. A flat cutting tip adds a second function for trimming cable ties or braid without switching tools. Stamped steel with form-ground edges keeps the shear action sharp.

Installing and common snags

No assembly is needed; the tool works straight from the pack. The handles are not insulated, so live-circuit work is unsafe. Proposition 65 warnings apply for cancer and reproductive-harm chemicals present in the materials.

Questions about this item

How long will the stamped-steel cutting edges stay sharp on the 45-074 cutter?

The form-ground edges are designed for repeated copper and coaxial cuts; sharpening or replacement depends on how often you cut RG-11 or twisted-pair cable.

What stops me from cutting thicker than 1/2 in copper with this tool?

The 1/2 in maximum wire thickness is the mechanical limit; forcing larger conductors will deform the shear blades.

Do the yellow vinyl grips get hot or slip during all-day use?

The curved handles give extra leverage so less force is needed, reducing heat build-up and keeping the comfort grip secure.
