Strips solid and stranded 16 to 22 AWG wire with Mil-Spec die-type blades, rated 600 V
The Ideal 45-638 is a hand-operated wire stripper designed for electricians and technicians working with solid and stranded conductors. It handles wire gauges from 16 to 22 AWG for both stripping and cutting tasks. The tool carries a 600 V voltage rating for use on live circuits up to that limit. No adjustment mechanism is required for the specified gauge range.
The body is constructed from plastic with standard cushion grips for comfort during repetitive use. Mil-Spec die-type blades provide precise stripping without damaging the conductor. The handles are not insulated, so users must observe standard safety practices. A grit pad is included to maintain blade performance over time. The 5 1/2 in overall length fits easily in a tool pouch or belt.
As a manual tool, the stripper produces no noise, generates no heat, and draws no electrical power during operation. Physical effort is limited to the hand force needed to close the jaws on 16 to 22 AWG wire. There are no motors, batteries, or electronic components to manage. The California Proposition 65 notice applies to materials used in manufacture.

| Brand name | IDEAL |
It strips solid and stranded wire from 16 AWG down to 22 AWG, covering 16, 18, 20 and 22 AWG sizes.
The stripper is rated for 600 V and has standard cushion grips without insulated handles.
The tool has no adjustment mechanism; strip length is set by how far you insert the wire, and the common error is not pushing the wire fully to the stop.
