USB 3.0 AC1200 Wireless Adapter

This dual-band USB 3.0 Wi-Fi adapter delivers up to 1200 Mbps combined throughput across 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands. It suits desktop and laptop users who need a quick wireless upgrade without opening the case. Compatible with Windows XP through Windows 10 and Mac OS 10.5 to 10.13, it installs via a standard USB port.

Dual-Band Antenna and USB 3.0 Interface

The included 5 dBi copper antenna extends range and helps maintain a link when signals are weak. USB 3.0 provides up to 5 Gbps bus bandwidth, ten times the throughput of USB 2.0, so the wireless engine is not bottlenecked by the host connection. A WPS button enables one-push encryption setup and a docking cradle allows flexible antenna positioning.

AC1200 Class Determines Maximum Link Speed

The adapter tops out at 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, so actual throughput will never exceed those link rates. Buyers whose router only supports slower Wi-Fi standards or who require Linux kernel support beyond 4.15 will not reach the advertised performance. Not supported on TVs, projectors, printers or Xbox consoles.

Questions about this item

Does the dual-band antenna ever need replacing or tightening?

The 5 dBi oxygen-free copper antenna is fixed to the adapter body and has no user-serviceable parts; no replacement or tightening is expected under normal use.

What caps the sustained throughput on the 5 GHz band first?

The 5 GHz radio tops out at 867 Mbps, while the USB 3.0 link can carry up to 5 Gbps, so the wireless radio is the first bottleneck.

How hot or loud does the adapter get when left plugged in all day?

The unit has no fan and draws power only from the USB port; it runs silently and stays barely warm during continuous operation.
