USB Wi-Fi adapter with dual-band antenna

This USB 2.0 wireless adapter adds 802.11ac WiFi 5 connectivity to desktops and laptops. It delivers a combined PHY rate of 650Mbps across 2.4GHz at 200Mbps and 5.8GHz at 433Mbps. A rotatable 5dBi external antenna provides 180-degree coverage for stronger signal penetration.

Suited for older Windows PCs lacking built-in 5GHz

The driverless design works on Windows Vista, XP, 7, 8, 10 and 11 with automatic installation. It suits users who need a simple plug-and-play upgrade to reach a dual-band router. Not suited for systems that only have USB 1.1 ports, nor for buyers who require Bluetooth or a newer Wi-Fi generation than WiFi 5.

Single specification that decides fit: USB 2.0

The adapter connects through a USB 2.0 port, which caps real-world throughput to the bus limit. If the host port is USB 2.0, the 650Mbps link rate cannot be fully utilised for sustained transfers. Verify the computer has an available USB 2.0 or newer port before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does the USB 2.0 interface limit the 650 Mbps dual-band rate during sustained transfers?

The adapter connects through a USB 2.0 port, which has a lower theoretical ceiling than the combined 650 Mbps wireless rate, so prolonged high-load traffic will be constrained by the USB link.

How much heat or noise does the adapter produce when running continuously?

The unit has no fan and draws power only from the USB port, so it runs silently and generates negligible heat even during all-day use.

What operating system must the host computer already run for driver-free operation?

The built-in driver supports Windows Vista, XP, 7, 8, 10 and 11, allowing plug-and-play use on any of those versions without extra software.
