InFocus IN114x DLP projector

The InFocus IN114x is a new DLP business projector delivering 3200 ANSI lumens at a native 1024 x 768 XGA resolution. It includes built-in speakers and extensive connectivity such as HDMI, VGA, USB, RS232, composite and S-Video. A medium throw ratio suits standard meeting-room distances. The unit ships with accessories and shows cosmetic wear but retains over 50 percent lamp life.

Upgrade from lower-lumen XGA models

Replacing a dimmer XGA projector with this 3200-lumen unit makes sense when ambient light washes out the current image or when text legibility at the back of the room is poor. The jump is worth it if the existing hardware lacks HDMI or 3D support and the installation can reuse the same throw distance. Buyers who need widescreen native resolution or higher pixel density should look elsewhere.

Limits of XGA 4:3 and medium throw

The native 4:3 aspect ratio and 1024 x 768 pixel grid limit detail for modern widescreen content; 1080p input is scaled down to the XGA grid. A 15000:1 contrast ratio helps black levels but cannot match darker-room technologies. Medium throw requires a set projection distance for a given image size, so very small rooms or ultra-wide screens may not be practical.
