PCIe Gen5 MCIO 38P Adapter
The Innocard EP8102 converts a PCIe x8 Gen5 link into two MCIO 38P ports using a built-in ReDriver and clock buffer. It targets system integrators extending high-speed storage or accelerator connections beyond standard board-edge reach. The adapter includes SMBus switch and I/O expander logic for out-of-band management of remote port resets.
Sustained Signal Integrity
Integrated ReDriver and 100MHz clock buffer compensate for insertion loss across longer traces and the supplied 100cm cables. PERST#, WAKE# and CLKREQ# buffer gates maintain link stability under continuous 5.0 GT/s per lane operation. Green status LEDs show PRSNT#, auxiliary and main rail readiness plus inverted PERST# and WAKE# states for quick diagnostics.
Replaces Direct Board Routing
This gender changer replaces fixed motherboard MCIO headers when chassis depth or backplane layout demands remote drive placement. The jump is worth it when cable runs exceed on-board trace budgets or when hot-plug management via SMBus addresses 0x6C, 0x70 and 0x20 is required. Buyers needing single-port or internal-only cabling should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item
Does the EP8102 add audible noise or extra heat when running a PCIe 5.0 x8 link continuously?
The board is a passive gender changer with a ReDriver and clock buffer; it has no fan or active cooling, so it adds no audible noise and minimal heat under continuous load.
What host connector and slot width must my motherboard provide for the EP8102 to operate?
The adapter requires a PCIe x8 slot wired for Gen 5 signalling to convert the link to dual MCIO 38P ports.
Can I keep my existing PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 storage devices when using this Gen 5 gender changer?
Yes, the ReDriver extends the 5.0 8-lane signal so the link will train down to 4.0 or 3.0 speeds with older endpoints.
