PCIe 4.0 x8 ReDriver controller

This Innocard adapter converts a PCIe 4.0 x8 slot to an internal SFF-8654 8i connector using a built-in ReDriver. It is designed for server builders who need to extend Gen4 signals over longer cables or backplanes. The card includes clock, sideband and power-break buffers to maintain link integrity across extended trace lengths. A green LED indicates when the add-in card is ready.

SFF-8654 8i interface limits

The connector follows the SFF-9402 Rev 1.1 pin-out and carries eight lanes at 16 GT/s. Signal quality depends on cable construction and total trace length because the ReDriver compensates but cannot overcome fundamental physics. The 100 MHz clock buffer and bidirectional SMCLK/SMDAT repeaters help sustain the link, yet very long or poor-quality cables may still cause errors. No RAID processing or drive management is performed on this card.

Installation notes

The controller fits a standard PCIe x8 or x16 slot and requires no additional drivers for the ReDriver function. Builders must ensure the SFF-8654 cable pin-out matches the SFF-9402 Rev 1.1 specification to avoid miswired lanes. Common issues include loose SlimSAS latch engagement and exceeding the practical reach of the ReDriver with excessive cable daisy-chaining. Verify that the host platform routes PCIe 4.0 to the chosen slot.
