PCIe Gen4 to SlimSAS 16i adapter
This Innocard adapter converts a PCIe x16 Gen4 slot into a SlimSAS 16i (SFF-8654) connector. It targets system integrators who need to route high-speed PCIe lanes to external or backplane storage enclosures. The card includes an onboard ReDriver to maintain signal integrity across the conversion. Built-in clock buffers and SMBus management support remote monitoring and reset functions.
16-lane PCIe 4.0 bifurcation support
The single specification that determines fit is the ability to split the 16 lanes into four x4 or two x8 link widths. This flexibility lets the adapter match different backplane topologies without changing the host configuration. The onboard ReDriver extends the 16 GT/s differential signals for reliable operation over longer cables. Clock fan-out buffers at 100 MHz drive two x4 links for extended reach.
Low-profile add-in card
The adapter draws 12 V from the slot and uses a 5.5 A PWM controller to generate 3.3 V for onboard logic and the SlimSAS interface. Integrated bus buffers for PERST#, WAKE#, CLKREQ# and PWRBRK# signals allow longer cable runs without signal degradation. Passive cooling is sufficient for normal operation because the ReDriver and buffers are low-power devices. No auxiliary power connector is required.

Questions about this item
What does the PCIe 4.0 x16 connection actually deliver when this adapter is installed?
The adapter converts a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot into a SlimSAS 16i (SFF-8654) interface with a built-in ReDriver that extends 16 GT/s signals across 16 lanes, and the link can be bifurcated into four x4 or two x8 widths for different topologies.
How does the SlimSAS 16i (SFF-8654) interface limit cable length and signal quality?
On-board ReDriver, clock fan-out buffers at 100 MHz, and dedicated buffers for PERST#, WAKE#, CLKREQ# and PWRBRK# signals are designed to maintain signal integrity over longer cables connected to the SlimSAS 16i port.
What physical slot and power does the card need to fit and run?
It installs in a standard PCIe x16 add-in card slot and includes a 12 V to 3.3 V, 5.5 A PWM power controller with a 3.3 V load switch to supply the onboard logic and the SlimSAS connector.
