Innocard PCIe Gen 4 ReDriver adapter
This Innocard adapter converts a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot to either an M.2 M-key NVMe SSD or an EDSFF 1C SSD. It is built for system integrators who need to install one drive type at a time in a standard add-in card form factor. The onboard ReDriver extends 16 GT/s differential signals across longer traces or cables.
Onboard ReDriver and clock buffer
A PCIe ReDriver with 17 dB CTLE gain compensates signal loss over extended routing. A 100 MHz clock buffer drives longer trace lengths and cables. SMBus interfaces at addresses 0x6C, 0x71 and 0x21 enable BMC and IPMI control of power, reset and presence detection for both drive formats.
PCIe 4.0 x4 electrical limit
The adapter operates within the PCI Express Base Specification Rev 4.0 and the CEM R4.0 08072019 document. Bandwidth is limited to the four lanes provided by the host slot. Signal integrity depends on the quality of the host routing and any cabling used beyond the card edge.

Questions about this item
Will the on-board PCIe ReDriver need any firmware updates or periodic recalibration during its service life?
The ReDriver is a fixed-gain analog circuit with its CTLE set to a maximum 17 dB boost; it has no programmable firmware and requires no recalibration.
What is the first signal-integrity limit reached when the adapter runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 16 GT/s continuously?
The CTLE maximum gain of 17 dB defines the equalisation ceiling; beyond that the 16 GT/s differential pairs cannot be recovered.
How much extra heat does the clock buffer and SMBus logic add when the card operates all day in a server chassis?
The on-board 100 MHz clock buffer, SMBus switch, I/O expander and PERST/WAKE/CLKREQ gates are low-power CMOS blocks that add negligible heat inside the chassis airflow.
