SlimSAS 4i and U.2 to PCIe x4 adapter
This gender changer converts SlimSAS 4i and U.2 connectors to two PCIe x4 slots for Gen4 signalling at 16GT/s. It suits technicians and system integrators who need to attach SFF-8654 or SFF-8639 storage devices to a standard PCIe backplane. The board is designed and made in Taiwan and carries part number GD0804A.
Hot-plug power management with eFuse protection
Each PCIe slot receives +12 V through an eFuse with a programmable 6.5 A current limit and controlled inrush slew rate. On-board PWM and LDO buck converters generate 3.3 V rails up to 4 A with over-current, under-voltage and UVLO safeguards. Thermal shutdown and 2 kV HBM ESD protection guard both power domains during insertion and removal.
Replaces separate SlimSAS and U.2 interposers
One card handles both SFF-8654 4i and SFF-8639 pin-outs defined by SFF-9402 Rev 1.1, removing the need for two distinct adapters. Built-in SMBus hot-swap buffers and Broadcom 95xx Tri-Mode sideband support (BP_TYPEA/B pull-ups, CPRSNT pull-downs) let MegaRAID and HBA controllers manage presence detect without extra cabling. The jump is worthwhile when a single Gen4 x4 slot must serve mixed drive form factors.

Questions about this item
How do I install the SlimSAS 4i and U.2 connectors to the PCIe x4 slots, and what step is often missed?
Plug each connector into its matching PCIe x4 slot, then attach the SMBus hot-swap buffer cable; the step often missed is enabling the BP_TYPE pull-up resistors for Broadcom 95xx Tri-Mode adapters.
What maintenance or replacement will this gender changer need over time?
The eFuse protecting the +12 V rail and the 3.3 V load switches are the only active protection parts; if a sustained over-current or thermal event trips them, the board must be replaced.
What limit appears first when the adapter runs at PCIe Gen 4 16 GT/s under sustained load?
The programmable 6.5 A current limit on the +12 V hot-plug circuit is the first ceiling reached during continuous high-speed operation.
