Pipe insulation for copper tube 7/8 in

This unslit tube insulation fits copper tube size 7/8 in and pipe size 1/2 in. It is made from Buna-N rubber blended with PVC and measures 6 ft in overall length with a 1/2 in wall thickness. The product suits HVAC, refrigeration and plumbing installations that require closed-cell foam protection.

Thermal range and fire ratings

The material operates from -297 Degrees F to 220 Degrees F and carries an R Value of 3. It is plenum rated with a flame spread index of 69 and a smoke developed index of 94. The unfaced black tube remains flexible across the full temperature span.

Replaces damaged or missing insulation on 1/2

Use this length to replace worn sections or to insulate new runs where continuous vapour barrier and condensation control are needed. The jump is worth it when existing wrap has deteriorated or when code requires plenum-rated closed-cell foam. Buyers who need pre-slit or adhesive-backed styles should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the unslit tube on an existing 7/8" OD pipe without splitting the insulation?

Slide the 6 ft unslit tube over the pipe end before connections are made; the flexible NBR/PVC material stretches slightly but forcing it over fittings risks tearing the closed-cell foam.

Will the NBR/PVC insulation degrade or need replacement after long exposure to the 220 °F maximum operating temperature?

The closed-cell Buna-N rubber/PVC blend resists thermal ageing up to 220 °F; inspect annually for hardening or cracks, especially near heat sources, and replace sections that lose flexibility.

At what point does the flame spread index of 69 become a limitation in a plenum-rated installation?

The 69 flame spread and 94 smoke developed ratings meet plenum requirements, but local codes may restrict use where stricter indices are mandated; verify with the authority having jurisdiction before enclosing in return-air spaces.
