Quad-core desktop processor running at 3.6 GHz with a 4.2 GHz turbo, 65 W TDP, integrated HD Graphics 630 and support for up to 64 GB of DDR4 or DDR3L memory on Intel 100 or 200 series chipsets
The Intel Core i7-7700 delivers four cores and eight threads at a base frequency of 3.6 GHz with a maximum turbo of 4.2 GHz. It targets builders upgrading or repairing systems based on Intel 100 or 200 series chipsets. The processor supports up to 64 GB of DDR4-2133/2400 or DDR3L-1333/1600 memory at 1.35 V. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 handles display output without a discrete card.
With a 65 W TDP the chip runs cool enough for standard tower or low-profile coolers in typical workloads. No cooling device is included so a compatible LGA 1151 heatsink must be sourced separately. Power draw stays modest during everyday tasks, helping system builders avoid oversized power supplies. Acoustic levels depend on the chosen cooler rather than the processor itself.
The LGA 1151 socket limits installation to Intel 100 or 200 series chipset boards, so verify the motherboard before purchase. Dual-channel memory controllers free up DIMM slots for up to 64 GB total capacity. Optane memory support adds a caching option for mechanical drives. The integrated graphics engine frees a PCIe slot when a discrete GPU is not required.

Align the gold triangle on the processor with the socket corner, lower it straight down without force, then close the retention lever; the common mistake is pressing the chip before the lever locks, which can damage the 1151 contacts.
The HD Graphics 630 is built into the die and cannot be swapped; keep the Intel graphics driver current through Windows Update or Intel's support site to maintain compatibility with new applications and OS releases.
The processor will reduce clocks once the junction temperature approaches 100 °C; with a properly mounted cooler rated for at least 65 W, throttling typically appears only after several minutes of continuous 4.2 GHz turbo on all four cores.
