Dual-port 10GBASE-LR server adapter with PCI Express 2.0 bypass and single-mode fibre up to 10 km
The Intel X520LR2BP is a full-height PCI Express 2.0 network card built around the Intel 82599 controller. It presents two fixed LC optics for single-mode fibre links rated to 10 km in normal mode and 5 km in bypass mode. The card targets servers and appliances that need long-reach 10 GbE connectivity without removable transceivers.
The x8 lane interface at 5.0 GT/s supplies enough bandwidth for both ports to run at line rate simultaneously. The on-board controller handles TCP/IP offload, iSCSI and NFS acceleration in hardware, keeping CPU utilisation low during prolonged storage or backup streams. Bypass circuitry maintains the optical link even if the host loses power or hangs, preserving network topology during maintenance windows.
Installation requires a standard full-height slot and adequate rear-panel clearance for the dual LC connectors. Because the optics are not removable, cable routing must accommodate the bend radius of single-mode patch cords directly at the bracket. No SFP+ modules are needed, but the fixed design means a damaged connector cannot be swapped in the field.

The card uses a PCI Express 2.0 (5.0 GT/s) interface and has no removable optics, so power draw and thermal output stay within the slot specification for a full-height adapter.
You need a free full-height PCI Express 2.0 (5.0 GT/s) slot and two singlemode fiber patch cords with LC connectors rated for up to 10 km.
The adapter requires a PCI Express 2.0 (5.0 GT/s) connection; it is not designed for 1.0 or 1.1 slots.
