Intel XL710 40 GbE QSFP+ Single-Port Adapter

This Intel network adapter delivers a single 40 GbE connection over a QSFP+ interface for servers that need high-throughput Ethernet. It fits a PCI-Express slot and targets data-centre workloads such as virtualization, LAN consolidation and storage networking.

Capacity and headroom: 40 GbE single port

The single 40 GbE port handles heavy east-west traffic, virtual-machine migration and storage replication without saturating a 10 GbE link. Headroom disappears when aggregate demand exceeds 40 Gbit/s or when multiple independent 40 GbE streams are required.

Practical limits of the PCI-Express interface

Throughput is bounded by the PCI-Express generation and lane count installed in the host server; an older or narrower slot will cap the realised bandwidth below the 40 GbE line rate. The QSFP+ transceiver and cable choice also define the maximum reach and power envelope.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel XL710 40 GbE QSFP+ card run in an older PCI-Express 2.0 server slot?

The adapter uses a PCI-Express interface and will operate in earlier PCIe generations at the speed the slot supports.

How can I verify the XL710 is linking at 40 GbE after installation?

Check the switch or OS network tool for a 40 Gbps link rate and confirm the QSFP+ module shows an active connection.

Does the retail XL710-QDA1 package include a QSFP+ transceiver or direct-attach cable?

The single-port adapter ships without a transceiver or cable; a compatible 40 GbE QSFP+ module or DAC must be purchased separately.
