USB VGA KVM Console Extender 500 ft

The IOGEAR GCE500U extends a VGA monitor, USB keyboard, and USB mouse up to 500 ft from a computer or USB KVM switch using a single CAT5e or CAT6 cable. It connects the local unit via an SPHD-17 interface and the remote unit through HDB-15 and USB Type-A ports. This suits server rooms, industrial floors, or digital-signage installs where the operator must sit far from the host.

1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz video headroom

The extender delivers up to 1920 x 1200 resolution at 60 Hz across the full 500 ft link. Auto Signal Compensation adjusts the video automatically so no DIP-switch configuration is required. Beyond that distance or above that resolution the signal will degrade, and the unit does not support higher refresh rates or digital video formats.

CAT5e/6 copper distance limit

The RJ45 link is bound by the electrical characteristics of CAT5e or CAT6 copper cabling, so the 500 ft ceiling is a hard physical limit. The extender adds no signal regeneration beyond that point, and it cannot operate over fibre, wireless, or IP networks. Buyers needing longer runs or multi-computer switching must choose a different architecture.

Questions about this item

Will my existing USB keyboard and mouse plug directly into the HDB-15 and USB Type A ports on the remote unit?

Yes — the remote unit provides one HDB-15 female for the VGA monitor and two USB Type A females for keyboard and mouse, so standard USB peripherals connect without adapters.

How can I confirm the link is active and the video signal is stable after I run the CAT5e cable?

The remote unit shows a Link LED and a Remote LED; when both are lit the extender has established a connection and is passing 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz video.

Does the package include the CAT5e cable needed to reach 500 ft, or must I buy it separately?

The box contains the local and remote units, a power adapter, and an SPHD-17 cable for the computer side; the CAT5e/6 cable for the 500 ft run is not included.
