8-Port LCD KVM Console

The IOGEAR GCL1808KITU combines a 17-inch TFT LCD monitor, keyboard and touchpad with an 8-port KVM switch in a single rack-mountable unit. It is designed for administrators who need direct, local control over up to eight VGA and USB servers from one console. Bundled USB KVM cables are included for immediate connection. This product is not for buyers who require digital video inputs such as HDMI or DisplayPort.

VGA Resolution and Port Limits

Video output is limited to 1280 x 1024 at 75 Hz via the HDB-15 console port and eight SPHD-15 computer ports. The analog VGA interface and DDC2B support define the maximum usable resolution and refresh rate. Eight computer connections are the fixed upper bound; the switch cannot be cascaded or expanded beyond these ports. Buyers needing higher resolutions or more than eight connected systems cannot use this unit.

17-Inch Integrated Display

The built-in 17-inch active-matrix TFT panel operates at a native 1280 x 1024 resolution, which determines the sharpness and workspace available at the rack. Console video quality and the maximum number of manageable servers are both fixed by this display and the eight-port switch fabric. If the rack environment demands a larger screen size or a different aspect ratio, this console will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 8-port model or a smaller KVM for my rack?

The GCL1808KITU provides eight SPHD-15 computer ports in a single 1U rack-mount console, so select it when you need to manage eight VGA/USB servers from one 17-inch LCD, keyboard and touchpad.

What does the 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz spec mean when the switch is connected to my servers?

Each attached server can output up to 1280 by 1024 pixels at 75 Hz through the VGA link, and the built-in 17-inch TFT panel will display that resolution natively without scaling.

Which video interface does the console use and what resolution ceiling does it impose?

The console uses a HDB-15 VGA connector and supports a maximum of 1280 x 1024 at 75 Hz with DDC2B signalling, so any higher-resolution source will be limited to that ceiling.
