Compatible ThinkPad Models

This 230 W AC adapter fits Lenovo ThinkPad P71 and P72 mobile workstations. It replaces the original 170 W and 230 W chargers supplied with those systems. It does not replace 280 W, 300 W, 330 W or 400 W units, so buyers needing higher-wattage adapters should look elsewhere.

Output Specification

The adapter delivers 20 V at 11.5 A for a total of 230 W. This single voltage-and-current combination decides whether the part matches the laptop’s power input; verify the requirement on the device label before ordering.

Sustained-Load Behaviour

A durable case resists extreme conditions and seals out water and humidity. High power efficiency guarantees a steady supply, while overload, short-circuit, over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protections operate continuously during extended use.

Questions about this item

Does the 230 W output actually run a ThinkPad P71 or P72 at full load?

Yes, the adapter delivers 20 V at 11.5 A for 230 W, matching the factory 230 W charger and replacing the 170 W unit for full performance on the listed P71 and P72 models.

What connector standard does this charger use and what does it limit?

It uses Lenovo's slim-tip plug, which caps output at the 230 W rating and will not fit or power the 280 W, 300 W, 330 W or 400 W adapter ports.

How much physical reach do the cords give for desk placement?

A UL-listed 6 ft AC cord plus a 6 ft DC cord provide 12 ft total reach, so the brick can sit on the floor while the laptop stays on the desk.
