First-stage weaning spoons

These Iwatani SMG Spoons1st SGSS01-01 silicone spoons are designed for babies aged six months and older who are starting self-feeding. The set contains three spoons in a rosy colour with stubby, textured handles that suit small hands. A built-in stopper limits how far the spoon can go into the mouth. Food-grade silicone is free from BPA, PVC, lead and phthalates.

Replacing basic flat spoons

The integrated stopper and sensory bumps on the spoon head replace ordinary flat weaning spoons that lack a depth guard. The upgrade is worth it when a baby is learning to coordinate hand-to-mouth motion and tends to push utensils too far back. The chewable texture also doubles as a teething surface during meals.

Suits parents starting baby-led weaning

This three-pack suits caregivers who want a dedicated first-stage set that encourages independent eating and withstands repeated chewing. It is not for families who need dishwasher-safe cleaning, as the manufacturer specifies hand wash only. Buyers requiring a larger quantity per pack should look at a different set.

Questions about this item

What utensil drawer space do three Iwatani SMG Spoons1st baby spoons need?

The set contains three short-handled silicone spoons with built-in stoppers; they stack flat and fit in a standard cutlery tray compartment.

How do I prepare the SGSS01-01 spoons before the first feed, and what step do parents often skip?

Wash each spoon by hand with warm soapy water, rinse well, and dry — the step many skip is checking that the stopper flange sits flush before every use.

When should I replace the rosy silicone spoons from this three-pack?

Replace any spoon that shows teeth marks, cracks, cloudiness, or a loose stopper, because damaged silicone can harbour bacteria and lose its safety stop function.
