The Jansicotek U310 is a 10 metre active USB 3.0 extension cable with a Type A male plug on one end and a Type A female port on the other. It is intended for users who need to place a printer, webcam, VR headset, external hard drive, USB hub or similar peripheral farther from the host computer than a standard passive cable allows.

Practical limits of the USB 3.0 active extension

The cable supports SuperSpeed USB 3.0 data rates up to 5 Gbps, which is roughly ten times the 480 Mbps ceiling of USB 2.0. Built-in signal booster chips compensate for the attenuation that normally occurs beyond 5 metres, so the full 5 Gbps throughput is maintained across the entire 10 metre run. The link remains backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices, which will operate at their native speeds.

Build quality, connectors and daily use

The cable uses 22 AWG tinned copper conductors, gold-plated contacts, and a triple shield of aluminium foil and braid to reject EMI and RFI. Two integrated amplification chips draw power from the USB bus to keep the signal clean over the long distance.
