40 Gbps USB4 Thunderbolt 4 cable for creators

This USB C to USB C cable delivers up to 40 Gbps bandwidth and supports 240 W charging at 48 V / 5 A. It drives a single 8K display at 60 Hz or dual 4K displays at 60 Hz. The grey male-to-male cord suits professionals moving large media libraries and charging high-draw laptops.

Practical limits of the 40 Gbps interface

Actual throughput depends on the host port: Gen 3 ports reach 40 Gbps while Gen 2 ports cap at 20 Gbps. Video output requires the source device to support DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C. Dual 4K monitors need two separate cables. Charging at 240 W demands a compatible 48 V / 5 A power supply and a device that accepts that profile.

Replaces slower USB-C cables

The cable upgrades from 10 Gbps or 20 Gbps USB-C cables that cannot sustain 8K video or 240 W power. It also supersedes passive Thunderbolt 3 cables limited to shorter lengths at full speed. The jump is worth it when you need guaranteed 40 Gbps data, 8K60 video or 240 W charging in a single 4 ft connection.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 40Gbps or a slower version?

The cable is rated for 40Gbps; choose it when your host and device both support that speed.

What does 40Gbps mean for actual file copies?

Up to 40Gbps lets you move roughly 14 hours of HD video or 25,000 HD photos in about one minute, provided the port and storage can sustain it.

Does the Thunderbolt 4 label cap charging or video?

It supports up to 240W charging at 48V/5A and 8K at 60Hz or dual 4K at 60Hz when both ends are Thunderbolt 4 capable.
