Mail Lock for Letter Boxes

The Ilco 1702-04 is a brass surface-mounted deadbolt designed specifically for mail and letter boxes. It uses a disc tumbler cylinder with vertical deadbolt locking and includes two keys per lock. The lock fits installations that use a locking spring clip or locking nut. This hardware suits residential and commercial mailboxes needing a replacement cylinder.

Suits Standard Mailbox Retrofits

This lock works for owners replacing an existing 7/8" mail cylinder with the same mounting style. It is not suited for doors requiring mortise installation or a different cylinder length. Buyers needing a keyed-alike set for multiple boxes should verify compatibility before purchase. The disc tumbler mechanism differs from pin tumbler designs used elsewhere.

Disc Tumbler Cylinder Determines Key Profile

The disc tumbler cylinder is the single specification that decides whether this is the right part. Only keys cut for this disc tumbler profile will operate the lock. Match the existing cylinder type exactly or the keys will not turn. The vertical deadbolt and surface mount are fixed features of this model 1702-04.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the keyed-different or keyed-alike version of the 1702-04?

This lock is supplied keyed different, so each unit opens with its own unique key.

How does the 7/8" cylinder length affect installation on my mailbox?

The 7/8" cylinder fits standard mailbox doors that accept a surface-mounted vertical deadbolt of that length.

What does the disc tumbler cylinder mean for key control?

The disc tumbler mechanism uses rotating discs instead of pins, providing a different pick resistance profile than conventional pin-tumbler locks.
