Three-pack NP-F980 EXP batteries

The Kastar NP-F980 EXP arrives as a three-pack of lithium-ion camera batteries, each rated at 64.4 Wh and 7.4 V. The cells include a micro-USB input for direct charging from a 5 V 2 A adapter and a 5 V 2.1 A USB output so each unit can double as a power bank. Four built-in LEDs show remaining capacity at a glance. Over-charge, over-discharge, over-voltage, over-current and over-heating circuits protect the pack during use.

Suits owners of L-series gear, not other mounts

Videographers and photographers running Sony Handycam, DSR or DCR models listed in the compatibility table, plus Desview R5 monitors and the named GVM, CN and YN LED lights, can swap these cells straight in. The pack also covers older NP-F530 through NP-F990 form factors. Shooters using V-mount, Gold-mount, Canon BP or other proprietary battery systems will need a different solution.

Drops into existing L-series slots

Each battery slides into the standard L-series cavity on compatible cameras, lights or monitors without adapters. The micro-USB port lets you top up from any 5 V 2 A wall charger or USB power bank while on location, and the 5 V 2.1 A output can keep a phone, monitor or wireless receiver running. No extra charger cradle is required, freeing space in the kit bag.

Questions about this item

What camera or light do I need to already own for these NP-F980 EXP batteries to work?

They fit Sony L-series bodies and LED panels that accept NP-F970, NP-F980 or NP-F990 packs, including the Desview R5 field monitor listed in the compatibility list.

Will these batteries power my older Sony DCR-TRV camcorders that used NP-F570 packs?

Yes, the NP-F980 EXP is backward-compatible with the full L-series range down to NP-F530, so it will run those legacy Handycam models.

How can I confirm each battery is charging and holding capacity after I plug it in?

The four built-in LEDs show charge level in real time, and the micro-USB input accepts a 5 V 2 A adapter for direct wall charging without a separate dock.
