Ready-to-use pair for kids

The KEHIPI RT388 ships as a matched pair of FRS two-way radios, each offering 22 channels and 99 CTCSS/DCS codes so families can pick a clear, private line for outdoor play. The set is intended for children aged roughly six to twelve and suits activities such as camping, hiking or neighbourhood games.

Simple setup with a few cautions

Power comes from four AAA cells per unit, which are not supplied, so have fresh batteries ready before the first outing. The keypad lock prevents accidental channel changes, while VOX lets younger users talk hands-free; just remember that mixing old and new cells or leaving batteries installed during long storage can cause leakage.

Range and limits in everyday use

The manufacturer quotes up to 1 kilometre of coverage, which is realistic across open ground but drops quickly inside buildings or dense woods. The 2.5 mm headphone jack adds a private-listening option, yet the radios are not water-resistant, so rain or splashes will end the session.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the RT388 radios are transmitting and receiving clearly after I put in the batteries?

Press the push-to-talk button on one unit and speak; the other radio should play your voice on the same channel with the auto-squelch reducing background noise. The integrated LED flashlight also lights up, confirming power is reaching the circuit.

What comes in the box with the KEHIPI RT388 pair and what must I purchase separately?

The package contains two RT388 walkie-talkies with belt clips. You must buy four AAA batteries (two per radio) and any 2.5 mm headphones you want for the VOX function, as neither is included.

Which channel and privacy-code combination should I select on the RT388 for a family hike?

Choose any of the 22 FRS channels and match the same CTCSS or DCS code from the 99 available on both radios; identical settings let the pair talk privately while blocking other users on that channel.
