Kids walkie-talkies for outdoor play

The KEHIPI RT628 two-way radios are sold as a 2-pack in camouflage finish. They operate on the 462-467 MHz FRS band with 22 selectable channels. CTCSS and DCS codes reduce unwanted transmissions. A keypad lock prevents accidental button presses by children.

Power and audio in normal use

Each unit weighs 3.5 ounces and measures 6.24 in x 1.09 in x 2.14 in. The manufacturer states a communication range of 1 kilometers in open conditions. An LCD display aids visibility in low light. The radios are not water resistant, so keep them dry during use.

Fitting them into a trip

The pair works together on any shared channel, and additional RT628 units can join the same channel. No licence is required for FRS frequencies. Their compact size suits a child's hand or a small backpack pocket. They are intended for casual family outings rather than marine or professional environments.

Questions about this item

How do I install the batteries in the RT628 without damaging the compartment?

Open the battery cover, insert three AAA cells matching the polarity marks, then close the cover firmly until it clicks.

What maintenance will the RT628 need after months of outdoor use?

Wipe the housing with a dry cloth, check the battery contacts for corrosion, and replace the three AAA cells when transmission fades.

What limits the 1 km range of the RT628 during a long hike?

Terrain, buildings and dense foliage block the 462–467 MHz signal, so the 1 km figure only applies in open, unobstructed areas.
