What this switch does

The KEHIPI T26 is a USB 3.0 bidirectional KVM switch that lets two computers share one USB peripheral or one computer alternate between two USB devices. It suits home offices, small studios or lab benches where a printer, scanner, keyboard, mouse or flash drive must move between machines without unplugging cables.

When the bidirectional mode matters

Unlike single-direction switches, this unit supports both 2-in-1-out and 1-in-2-out operation, so the same hardware covers either sharing scenario. The jump is worth it when you frequently swap a high-bandwidth device such as an external drive between two workstations, or when a single workstation needs quick access to two different peripherals without a hub.

Limits of the USB 3.0 interface

The switch tops out at the USB 3.0 signalling rate of 5 Gb/s and draws up to 800 mA at 5 V from the host port, so bus-powered devices that exceed that current budget may need their own supply. Cable runs longer than the supplied 1.8-metre leads can reduce throughput, and the physical push-button requires manual reach each time you change the active path.

Questions about this item

How much desk space does the 6.0 in x 4.9 in x 1.8 in enclosure need?

The unit measures 6.0 in wide, 4.9 in deep and 1.8 in high, so allow at least that footprint plus room for the two attached USB 3.0 cables.

Which step do users often miss when setting up the push-button switch?

Connect both computers to the two USB 3.0 ports on the switch, attach the shared device to the single USB port, then press the button to select the active computer — the LED shows which one is connected.

When should the two included USB 3.0 cables be replaced?

Replace a cable if the connector feels loose, data drops to USB 2.0 speeds, or the LED fails to light when the button is pressed.
