What the cable connects

This Toslink optical audio cable links devices that have a TOSLINK or S/PDIF digital output to soundbars, amplifiers, stereo systems or D/A converters. It is built for home-theatre and gaming setups where a pure digital path is required. The 10 ft length suits typical living-room layouts without excess slack.

Interface limits

The F05 connectors carry stereo PCM and compressed surround formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS over light, so the link is immune to ground loops and electromagnetic noise. Bandwidth is defined by the S/PDIF specification, which does not support uncompressed multichannel audio or high-bitrate codecs like Dolby TrueHD. Longer runs beyond the supplied length may need a repeater.

Capacity and headroom

At 10 ft the fibre delivers 100 % signal transmission with 0 % loss, so a soundbar or AV receiver receives an identical bitstream to the source. The gold-plated tips resist corrosion for years of reconnecting. The cable cannot carry analogue audio, HDMI control signals or power, so separate leads are still needed for those functions.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 10 ft length or a shorter cable for my soundbar setup?

The 10 ft length gives enough reach to run from a TV or console to a soundbar across a typical living room without excess slack; if your devices sit closer together a shorter cable will reduce clutter.

What does the 100 % signal transmission claim mean when I connect this cable to my PS4 and amplifier?

The fiber-optic core delivers the digital audio bitstream with zero electrical loss, so the sound arriving at your amplifier is identical to the source output from the console.

How does the TOSLINK (F05) interface limit the audio formats I can send through this cable?

The TOSLINK connection carries standard S/PDIF streams such as stereo PCM, Dolby Digital and DTS, but does not have the bandwidth for uncompressed multichannel formats like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio.
