6.8" Digital Multimedia Receiver

The Kenwood DMX8709S is a 6.8" digital multimedia receiver designed for drivers who want smartphone integration and a backup camera in one package. It suits owners of vehicles with a single-DIN or double-DIN opening who need Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a clear rear view without adding separate screens.

Capacitive touchscreen and wiring

The unit uses a capacitive touchscreen panel that responds to light touches, making menu navigation straightforward while parked. Installation requires routing the CMOS-230 camera cable to the rear of the vehicle and connecting the receiver's RCA video input; the most common issue is finding a secure path for the camera wire through the boot or tailgate.

18 FM and 10 AM presets with wide-angle view

The tuner stores 18 FM and 10 AM presets for quick access to local stations. The included CMOS-230 backup camera provides a wide-angle view for parking manoeuvres, though its fixed lens cannot cover every blind spot on larger vans or trailers.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the 6.8" WVGA capacitive touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay are working correctly after installation?

The 6.8" WVGA capacitive touchscreen should respond instantly to touch. Wireless Apple CarPlay connects via built-in Wi-Fi; the CarPlay home screen should appear on the display with your iPhone apps accessible. Test the 18 FM and 10 AM presets to confirm the AM/FM tuner is storing stations.

What components are included in the box and what must be purchased separately for installation?

The package includes the DMX8709S digital multimedia receiver and the CMOS-230 backup camera with universal mounting. Installation requires a vehicle-specific dash kit, wiring harness, antenna adapter and any steering-wheel control interface, which are sold separately.

Which version should I choose if I want both wireless smartphone integration and a backup camera?

The DMX8709S bundles the 6.8" receiver with the CMOS-230 backup camera and supports both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus built-in Amazon Alexa over Wi-Fi, covering all those features in a single kit.
