Capacity and interface

The KingSpec XF-512-2280 is a 512GB M.2 2280 internal SSD that uses the PCI-Express 4.0 x4 interface and NVMe protocol. It is built with 3D NAND TLC flash and targets gamers, creatives and video editors who need fast storage for heavy workloads. The drive also works with the PS5 console.

Upgrade from SATA

This model replaces a SATA SSD and delivers up to 10 times the sequential speed of KingSpec's own SATA drives. Sequential read reaches 4800 MBps and write reaches 2700 MBps, so the jump is worthwhile when loading large game assets, editing high-resolution footage or moving big datasets. Endurance is rated at 600TB written and MTBF at 1000000 hours.

Build integration

The single-sided 2.10mm height fits slim laptops, ultrabooks and desktops with an M.2 slot keyed for PCIe 4.0 x4. No heatsink is included, but the design is compatible with add-on heatsinks for the PS5 or motherboard shields. Operating range spans 0°C to 70°C, and storage range spans -20°C to 75°C at up to 95% humidity non-condensing.

Questions about this item

Will the 22.0 mm wide M.2 2280 card fit my motherboard slot?

Yes, the drive uses the standard M.2 2280 form factor measuring 22.0 mm wide and 2.10 mm high, so it fits any desktop or laptop slot keyed for that size.

What is the correct way to install the PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe drive and avoid the common mistake?

Insert the drive at an angle into the M.2 slot, press it down flat, and secure it with the motherboard screw; the step many miss is enabling PCIe 4.0 mode in the BIOS so the drive reaches its 4800 MBps read potential.

When will the 3D NAND TLC memory need replacement based on the rated endurance?

The drive is rated for 600 TBW and 1,000,000 hours MTBF; typical consumer workloads write far less per year, so the SSD should last many years before wear-out becomes a concern.
