Kingston IronKey Vault Privacy 80 7.68TB

The Kingston IronKey Vault Privacy 80 is a hardware-encrypted external SSD with a 7.68TB capacity and a USB-C interface. It uses XTS-AES 256-bit encryption validated to FIPS 197 and adds a built-in touchscreen for PIN or passphrase entry. Admin and user roles can be configured with custom password rules.

Suited for users needing validated encryption

This drive suits professionals who must meet FIPS 197 requirements and want hardware-based encryption without software installation. The touchscreen allows unlocking on any host with a USB-C port. Buyers who need faster sequential throughput than 230MB/s read and 250MB/s write should consider alternative storage.

USB-C interface with 230MB/s read and 250MB/s write

The single specification that decides fit is the USB-C interface combined with the stated sequential speeds of 230MB/s read and 250MB/s write. These rates determine transfer time for large datasets. Verify that the host system provides a USB-C connection and that the performance level matches the workflow.

Questions about this item

What real-world throughput does the USB-C interface on this 7.68TB drive deliver?

The USB-C connection reaches up to 230 MB/s read and 250 MB/s write in sequential transfers.

What are the exact dimensions I need to clear for this 122.5 mm by 84.2 mm by 18.5 mm enclosure?

The drive measures 122.5 mm wide, 84.2 mm deep and 18.5 mm high, so allow at least that footprint plus cable clearance.

How do I activate the hardware encryption on the touch-screen before the drive becomes readable?

Power on the SSD, set an admin PIN or passphrase on the built-in touch screen, then create a user credential; the XTS-AES 256-bit encryption engages immediately after the admin credential is confirmed.
